Proact Annual Charity 6-a-side Football Tournament
Our 3rd annual Proact Charity Football Tournament took place at the Proact Stadium on Monday 18th May. Ten teams representing our vendor and technology partnerships, local businesses and of course our Proact staff, took to the pitch in what turned out to be an epic day of football.
Eight teams battled it out in the quarter finals: Arrow Harrogate, Doubletree FC, Tekkers FC, Your Football World, Charlie’s Angels, Le Saux Solid Crew, Proact Glasgow and Varonis FC. Leaving Arrow Harrogate Vs Your Football World and Le Saux Solid Crew Vs Tekkers FC in the semi-final.
Although Arrow Harrogate put up a good fight, we are very proud to announce that it was Le Saux Solid Crew (Proact Chesterfield) that took home the trophy, winning 2-0 in the final match. “It was great to score a screamer in the final, though the match was rather tiring” says Alex Edwards from Le Saux Solid Crew.
We want to say a huge thank you, cue round of applause, to the Proact team for all they did in the run up to the event, and for their various contributions throughout the day. Not forgetting a big thank you to everyone who came down and offered their support and donations with the raffle, and of course to the teams that took part. Most Valuable Player, sponsored by Tintri, went to Sheraz Rashid, Arrow Harrogate.
We are thrilled to announce that a grand total of £1,780 was raised for our charity Penny Brohn Cancer Care.
Thanks to all our generous sponsors and donators, including:
Doubletree Hilton Sheffield Park Hotel, Tintri, Nandos Chesterfield, Watson & Brown, Rubicon Print & Design Ltd and The Speciality Sandwich Company.
We look forward to next year’s tournament with anticipation.
June/July 2015 – Volunteering
Proact staff members have been busy at the Penny Brohn Cancer Care National Centre in Bristol, carrying out gardening duties prior to the open day, as well as undertaking various decorating tasks around the building.
Here’s what they have to say about their volunteering experiences at Penny Brohn:
“Fantastic centre which I think you can only really appreciate when you visit, right from the beautiful setting of the building to the thought process behind the holistic care. I was left with a feeling that I’d really like to give much more time… quite inspiring to see the regular group of volunteers who work there every Friday.”
“I found the day very different to what I've got used to & very rewarding.I have not done much volunteering since I was much younger. It has definitely inspired me to want to do more. It was great seeing so many others there, giving up their spare time for such a well deserving charity. I also enjoyed having the opportunity to learn about and see such a different take on cancer care/rehabilitation.”
“I really enjoyed the volunteering last Friday, it’s great to be able to give our time to such a great cause and also really rewarding to see the before and after of what we did last year. The gardens looked beautiful ready for their open day on Sunday.”
“A thoroughly enjoyable day…The open day was scheduled for the Sunday and all focus was on that. The break time was particularly good sitting outside with the other volunteers and hearing what they were doing in the garden and experiences of the charity. The walk around tour by Sam at the end of the day was fab, very enlightening and you can see the passion for providing services and care that the NHS doesn’t do. Will happily do again... soon!”
“My experience of volunteering at the Penny Brohn centre was extremely positive and one I would be happy to repeat. It was really great, first of all to spend some non-work time with my team who are a great bunch of people, but also to spend some time with my brain switched off from normal work (mostly) and focus on achieving a different type of task.”
“Amazing how much we achieved in the day. To add to this, Penny Brohn is set in beautiful and peaceful surroundings and I felt surprisingly rested despite the work we had done. The staff and volunteers were incredibly friendly and I would recommend anyone gives this a go as it is such a fantastic cause.”
