Job Overview:
Proact MCS is a leading provider of managed virtualisation and storage solutions in a number of Data Centres in the UK and western Europe. We are seeking a Junior Network Engineer to join our team delivering a high quality data communication infrastructure that underpins our overall service delivery. This position requires experience with Cisco or Juniper technologies, and working in a busy support environment. A minimum of a CCNA qualification is required and at least one years hands on experience across routing, switching and firewall technologies or a relevant degree in Computer Networks or Cyber Security and Networking.
Job Responsibilities:
- Investigating, analysing and resolving network incidents and problems.
- Installation and configuration of new switches and firewalls.
- Monitoring and management of network performance.
- Engaging in projects to provide network related input.
- Participate in out-of-hours rota.
Essential Experience:
- Current Cisco CCNA qualification or equivalent.
- Experience in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco Catalyst Switches and ASA firewalls, including IPSec VPNs, Or Experience with JunOS for Juniper switches and SRX firewalls.
- A solid understanding of layer 2 and 3 routing, including dynamic routing protocols (such as OSPF and BGP).
- An awareness of data centre security standards and modern cyber threats.
- Knowledge of IP storage technologies such as iSCSI, CIFS and NFS.
- Experience of working with command line tools such as VI, Telnet, FTP, SSH.
- Experience of working with Windows Server and Linux Distributions.
- Experience of scripting configurations using Shell Scripting, Powershell, Java Script or other relevant language.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience of working in a team environment.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with an exceptional eye for detail.
- Able to produce documentation to a high standard.
- Incident handling and change management experience using ITIL procedures.
